The purpose of a building program: | The process of creating a Building Program: Analyze space and storage needs for current and projected patterns of use, staff functions, print and non-print collections, technologies, and services to the community. Script a building program based on what people want, the trends in library service, and a projected future. Suggest possibilities for enhanced community use. - Compare actual and proposed assignable areas for public and staff use.
- Determine proximities; create a diagram showing what areas should be next to each other.
- Fill out a form for each area which includes the name of the area, its functions, square footage, the number of occupants to be accommodated, proximities, equipment, storage, ambiance desired, signage, computers, internet connections, wireless technologies, acoustics, environmental considerations, lighting, furnishings, and shelving.
- If a site choice is to be determined, list the pros and cons of each possible site.
- Assist in presentation of the building program to Library Board and others as determined.
